Appearances are sometimes deceiving... The beautiful straight line shown in the main photo is one of the rare ones on this circuit made of passes and curves. This 240 km (5 hours) route also follows the Route des Grandes Alpes to take you to the Iseran pass (the highest in the Alps at 2764 m) as well as to the twin Madeleine passes (Val Cenis at 1746 m and La Léchère, the most famous, at 1993 m). Sublime roads, grandiose landscapes, breathtaking views, it is difficult to find the words to describe the beauty of this route.
There are 2 tourist stops on this route. You are free to stay for a few minutes or a few hours.
- Bonneval sur Arc
- Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne
1. Bonneval sur Arc : In the hollow of the Haute Maurienne valley, surrounded by the imposing mountains of the Vanoise massif, Bonneval-sur-Arc has retained the charm of a village resort on a human scale.
2. Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne : In the heart of the Maurienne valley, where the Arvan meets the Arc, there is a large area whose slopes offer all the variety of Alpine landscapes with the emblematic Aiguilles d'Arves in the background. Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is an obligatory passage between France and Italy, a crossroads on the road to the major passes and a gateway to the many surrounding resorts. It also has a remarkable historical heritage, making it a destination worth discovering.
